Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, has reaffirmed his administration’s determination to reposition the state-owned tertiary institutions as pillars of academic excellence and drivers of socio-economic growth.

At a high-level engagement with the heads of the eight state-owned tertiary institutions alongside union representatives, the governor emphasized the need for collective responsibility in redefining the future of higher education in Bauchi. The dialogue, which later transitioned into a closed-door session, was described by stakeholders as a turning point for the state’s education sector.

Speaking after the deliberations, Vice Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University, Prof. Fatima Tahir, hailed Governor Mohammed’s visionary leadership, noting that sustained investment in infrastructure and funding has elevated the university to a top-ranking institution nationally.

Similarly, Provost of Aminu Saleh College of Education, Prof. Sadiya Mohammed, stressed that the interface was unprecedented, describing it as the first time a sitting governor convened such a forum to directly address the concerns of institutions and their unions.

Rector of Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Dr. Hashim Sabo Bello, highlighted key achievements, including ongoing internal road projects and the seamless accreditation of academic programs—developments made possible through government intervention.

On behalf of the unions, Dr. Nazif Abba Pali of ASUP pledged unwavering cooperation with both institutional leadership and the state government, commending the governor for creating an atmosphere of partnership rather than confrontation.

Commissioner for Higher Education and Regional Integration, Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani, described the meeting as historic, stressing that it signals a “new dawn” where government, management, and unions will collectively drive educational progress in Bauchi.

With the governor’s clear commitment to dialogue, investment, and accountability, Bauchi’s tertiary institutions are set on a trajectory toward becoming models of innovation, discipline, and excellence in Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
